Biographical Information

Attorney Gerald T. Laurie has practiced law for many decades in two firms he founded. Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of the leading attorneys in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Today, both individuals and business clients from throughout Minnesota seek his assistance when facing legal challenges that fall under the following practice areas:

• Employment law, including discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination and whistleblowing
• Civil litigation, including professional malpractice, personal injury and negligence
• Business law, including noncompete adherence, breaches of contract and general business litigation

Mr. Laurie began his legal career in 1967 after earning his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School and his approval to practice law in the state of Minnesota. Since beginning his career, he has focused his efforts on employment law and civil litigation. The Minnesota State Bar Association recognizes him as a dual board-certified Civil Trial Specialist and as a Labor and Employment Law Specialist, one of very few lawyers to have both of these certifications. In 1996, he was elected a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers after a long and distinguished practice in that area. He has been named a Minnesota Super Lawyer every year since 2003.

Over the course of his nearly 50-year legal career, Mr. Laurie’s countless courtroom successes have earned him a number of honors and awards. Among the most recent are an AV Preeminent peer review rating* and a Preeminent client review rating, both of which are from Martindale-Hubbell.

When Mr. Laurie is not in the courtroom, he is often found at legal functions. He is an active member of the legal community through membership in a number of organizations, including the Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers of Minnesota, where he has been a member of the board of directors since 2004. He was co-chair of the Commercial Litigation section of the Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association for almost ten years. He has argued a number of high-publicity cases.
