Biographical Information
After graduating from the University of Florida, College of Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice in 1978, I went on to earn my Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida, College of Law in 1981. I have been a member of the Florida Bar since 1982 and am admitted to practice before all Florida courts in addition to the:
- United States Supreme Court
- United States Court of Appeals, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits
- U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida
- Eastern District of Michigan
In the beginning of my career, I represented the State of Florida in felony prosecutions in cases ranging from DUI to murder, serving as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County from 1981 to 1984. I then served as the Senior Trial Attorney at Essen & Essen, P.A. from 1986 to 1992. In 1992, I formed my own defense firm – Jonathan Blecher, P.A. In addition to my legal practice, I have led seminars instructing attorneys regarding DUI defense and taught lectures on courtroom procedure for police officers at the Miami-Dade County Police Academy.
I was named a “Top Ten DUI Lawyer” by the Miami Herald, and my name is included in the Cambridge Who’s Who in Law as well as Florida Trend’s Legal Elite. I am a general member of the National College for DUI Defense and have earned a 10.0 Superb Rating from AVVO and an AV Preeminent® Rating from Martindale-Hubbell® – both nationally recognized attorney-ranking services. In my three decades of practice, I have defended more than 3,000 DUI cases. I also have over 65 peer endorsements from other attorneys on AVVO.com, attesting to my knowledge and experience in Florida DUI law.
