Biographical Information

As an attorney Juan Pablo recognized as one of the Top Lawyers for 2016, by the Miami Herald.  He was also named the Leading Lawyer of the Year in the Corporate/M&A – Latin America category at the ACQ 2016 Law Awards.  Also the editorial staff of Latinvex in January 2014 selected Juan Pablo as one of the leading attorneys involved in Latin America.

Before launching the Private Advising Group, PA, Juan Pablo was a Principal Shareholder in the Latin American Group of Greenberg Traurig in Miami.   Earlier in his career Juan Pablo was a partner in and a director of Patagon.com, which was sold to Banco Santander for a transaction value of over US$750 million.

Juan Pablo is also a well-known entrepreneur and deeply involved in supporting venture capital in Latin America.

He was recently named one of the “Most Influential Hispanics” in by Poder magazine in the areas of science and technology and in 2012 was selected as a “Top 50 Entrepreneur” by Business Leader magazine.

He has co-founded several companies including (i) www.idea.me, the first Latin America crowdfunding site (ii) www.urbita.com, the leading social travel website in Latin America, and (iii) the LAB Miami, a 10,000 sq.ft. center for technology and innovation in the Wynwood Arts District in Miami.

He also serves on the Knight Foundation Advisory Committee, as well as the US Board of Un Techo Para Mi Pais.   Juan Pablo also is a senior advisor of Endeavor.org and a member of the Legal Committee of the Latin American Venture Capital Association.

Juan Pablo, a Chilean native, has law firm experience both on Wall Street and in Chile. Earlier in his career, he worked at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton (New York) and Philippi, Yrarrazaval (Santiago) where he focused on international financings, securities offerings and joint ventures.

Juan Pablo graduated with a B.A. from Duke University and holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from New York University School of Law. He is fluent in Spanish and is admitted to practice law in Florida, and New York.

Professional Experience

Juan Pablo Cappello worked for the law firms Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in NYC and Philippi Yrarrazaval in Santiago, Chile. Juan Pablo Cappello is now a managing partner of the Private Advising Group PA, a Miami based law firm and was until January 2013 a principal shareholder of the firm Greenberg Traurig. The more important cases he helped to represent include Bush v. Gore, and the merger between Guidant and Boston Scientific. His previous positions have included Executive Vice President, Corporate Secretary, and General Counsel of Patagon bank, where he engineered the sale of a controlling interest in Patagon to Banco Santander for more than US$750 million. Before that he was General Counsel and SVP of SKY Latin America.
