Biographical Information

Richard G. Lubin graduated from Boston University in 1970. He served as president of the 30,000 member student body during the 1969-1970 school year. He graduated from Georgetown Law School in 1974 and has practiced criminal defense law in Palm Beach County since then.

Richard has been a fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers since 1989. In 1999- 2001, he was its president. He has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 1983 and served on the Board of Directors from 1989 to 1994. Richard has served as chairman of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Continuing Legal Education Committee and Lawyers Assistance Strike Force. For many years, he served on the faculty of the National Criminal Defense College which teaches trial skills to criminal lawyers. Richard has also served on the Board of Directors of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and as President of the Palm Beach Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He served as chairman of the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission in 2000 and 2001 and as President of the Palm Beach County Legal Aid Society for 13 years. Additionally, he has served on the Florida Bar Grievance Committee, the Palm Beach County Judicial Nominating Commission and on the United States Magistrate Judge Selection and Retention Panel for the Southern District of Florida.

Richard has successfully defended clients throughout the country. His practice includes charges ranging from complex white collar defense such as healthcare fraud, honest services fraud, mail and wire fraud, securities fraud, income tax fraud, RICO, money laundering and conspiracy, to homicide (including death penalty cases), narcotics violations, traffic homicide cases such as DUI manslaughter, and sex offenses. He is known for having an expertise in the defense of professionals such as doctors, lawyers, corporate executives, professional athletes and educators. Although many of his cases are “high profile,” most are not.

Richard is a pioneer in the effective use of trial consultants and the use of focus groups. He has a reputation for being particularly tenacious in his investigations and trial preparation. Observers have routinely commented on his cross examinations, closing arguments and his refusal to never-give-up attitude. His success as a defense lawyer has led to regular requests for Richard to teach defense lawyers throughout the country. He has lectured on numerous topics including voir dire, voir dire in death penalty cases, opening statement, direct examination, cross examination, cross examination of expert witnesses, effective use of expert witnesses, defense of cases involving co-defendant or confidential informant testimony, cross examination of medical examiners, cross examination of government agents at detention hearings, attorney’s fees in criminal cases, the defense of entrapment cases, insanity defense cases, closing argument, communication in the courtroom, theories and themes, as well as the defense of “high profile” cases.

Richard believes strongly in the team approach to the defense of criminal cases. All of the lawyers in the Firm work with him on each of the Firm’s cases. The attorneys in the Firm were hand picked by Richard because of their particular expertise as part of the team.
