Biographical Information

Stephanie O. Burgess is the founding owner and managing attorney of the Burgess Law Group, LLC located in Savannah, Georgia. Her practice areas include criminal defense, family law and some probate matters.

Ms. Burgess is a former staff attorney for Fulton County Superior Court and City of Atlanta Municipal Court. Prior to attending law school, she worked as a Georgia P.O.S.T certified police officer, deputy sheriff and campus police. She also served as a volunteer coordinator with Clayton County Rape Crisis Center.

She has been recognized as a 2020 and 2019 National Trial Lawyers- Top 100 and National Black Lawyers- Top 100 African American Attorney and Top 100 Criminal Defense Attorney. She has been featured in Savannah Magazine in 2020 and 2019 and she was also spotlighted in their top Women in Business edition. In 2016, South Magazine named her as one of South’s Finest Lawyers. Ms. Burgess is an active member of the National Bar Association, serves on the Executive Board of the Women Lawyers Division (WLD) of the National Bar Association and as co-chair of WLD’s International Committee. She is past president of the Port City Bar Association. She currently serves on the Executive Board of Savannah State University’s College of Business Administration.

Ms. Burgess was admitted the State Bar of Georgia in 2005. She is also admitted to practice before Georgia Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia.

Education

Ms. Burgess attended Clark Atlanta University and earned her bachelor of arts degree from Savannah State University and her juris doctor from Texas Southern University.
