Professional Experience

In 1986, Tom started practicing law in San Antonio, and worked for a premier insurance defense law firm. During his time on the defense side of litigation, he saw first-hand how large corporations protected their own interests. After three and a half years of defense practice, Tom and Ginger moved their family to Africa to serve as lay missionaries for three years in a remote area in Mongu Zambia. While in Zambia, Tom worked with farmers and villagers supporting their efforts to sustain their families in sometimes harsh environments. Ginger, a registered nurse, worked with women and malnourished children and provided medical and nutritional support.

Upon returning from Zambia three years later, Tom opened a single-lawyer office in San Antonio, Texas and has been representing people with personal injuries, work-related accidents, medical malpractice, and business-related losses for more than 40 years. He credits the significant verdicts and settlements that he’s achieved to his passion for helping people who would otherwise lack the resources to hold the rich and powerful accountable.

Over the past 10 years, Kemmy Law Firm has expanded to include five of Tom’s sons and one of his daughter-in-laws; each of whom are capable trial lawyers, devoted to providing excellent trial work for their clients. With offices now in San Antonio and Odessa, Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico, the Kemmys represent clients throughout Texas, New Mexico, and across the country.

Honors & Awards

Recently, Tom was selected by his peers to receive the prestigious Pat Maloney, Sr. Courage Award from the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association (SATLA). Pat Maloney, Sr. (1924-2005) is and will always remain a legendary trial lawyer whose fierce advocacy was recognized across the state and throughout the United States. He served as a mentor to many men and women over his career, and Tom was privileged to have received his mentorship.
