Biographical Information

Mr. Makler has been practicing Criminal Defense in California since 1996.  Prior to becoming an attorney, he spent a number of years filling various roles in law enforcement.   Mr. Makler is an accomplished criminal defense attorney known for his effectiveness as a trial attorney.  In addition to managing a busy law practice, Mr. Makler was on the regular faculty as an Evidence professor at Santa Barbara and Ventura Colleges of Law.  His mainline practice is DUI defense but he is experienced in all variety of criminal matters as well as select civil rights and class action litigation, particularly having to do with police procedures and in helping people remedy their criminal convictions and arrest histories.  His work in this regard has been widely recognized.  Mr. Makler has received the highest attorney rating “A-V” by Martindale Hubbel and has been rated consistently a 10 out of 10 on Avvo.com.
